Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes is managed through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in order to help homebuilders design and construct sustainable homes nationwide.
All cottage housing will conform to LEED criteria which mean all cottage housing will possess the following criteria:
1. Healthy living environment
2. Improved indoor air quality
3. Reduced exposure to pollutants
4. Green building construction
5. Environmentally sustainable materials
6. Energy efficient
7. Locally purchased building materials thereby reducing carbon footprint
8. Low environmental impact
9. Durable design
10. Home placement in socially and environmentally responsible
11. Efficient utilization of materials
12. Minimized construction waste
The LEED for Homes Rating System requires the home to meet a minimum level of performance and awards additional points for improved performance. Old Cutters is offering homes that are LEED certified with improved performance points.
The homes will be constructed with the developer and builder working closely with a LEED for Homes Provider and Green Rater. Throughout the process of construction these homes will have to pass several field inspections and performance tests. Individuals purchasing these LEED certified homes will be provided with a home manual educating the buyer on the benefits and operations of their home.
In summary, individuals who purchase a LEED certified cottage will benefit by knowing their cottage was constructed in an environmentally responsible manner. More importantly, they will benefit by enjoying living in a healthy, energy efficient home.
